bird photopin

I wish I could be as a bird with clipped wings or bound by the bars of a cage

To fit in that proverbial box, where life and love all neatly arrange,

Held atop a pedestal and never fall

But my wings are wild and wide

My need to fly as great as an ocean’s tide

My spirit cannot survive if banded with gold

My heart cannot justify the love it withholds

And I am at a loss without reason to explain

Why I seek freedom the way others seek refrain

Lovers at a Crossroads

Standard

Him:

He wants to be free but doesn’t know how and the struggle is in the seeking, the suffering is in the now when he longs for the kiss of the woman he desires, but the shadow of another leaves him feeling like a liar. He’s a man living in the spaces between each breath, trying so hard to know himself, and no matter how much he wants another life, he’ll stay in this place that gives him such strife. He must resign himself now to the truth of this path, ‘tis as simple as a problem found in first-grade math.

Her:

She can’t be his plaything, for she’s a woman of flesh and bone, with a heart that beats pure behind a wall of solid stone. She’s a need for a man who knows how to break clean thru, expose her, make her vulnerable – none of which he cares to do. As sad as it makes her she’ll say goodbye, for she’s got to live her truth and not this battered lie. They both knew this moment would come anyway, may as well make it now, may as well be today.

Sass In the Satin

I’m not often caught by surprise, used to be common til I

Drowned in men’s lies, and then you appeared before me

Like a cloud across the sky, better keep moving lest you

Get caught by surprise; see this Southern belle as a quest

You need to con, or fall for her completely…wouldn’t

That be fun? Oh geez don’t let my bud catch any of

Your dew, for the heart squeezes tight when it

Considers me and you; berries on the bush, yes

The temptation is one for the ages, whispering

“Live your truth” are the voices of the sages; and

We shall surely dance around this rhythm we

Know; marionettes flail their arms and legs

As we clap for the show; gentle is the touch,

Sweet your very taste, lustful on the vine,

Your hands are full of grace. Throw caution

To the Wind, let your freedom find a trail,

No justification needed when you

Set that final sail. This is but a rhyme,

Don’t be so morose, figure a bag of candy

Is sweeter than your prose, and just as I have you,

You’d surely take flight, as a bird with healed

Wings after a grounded fortnight.

Never…

Standard

medium_104946216

I never knew the secret whispers of the wind

Or the reckless urge to kiss a stranger

I never knew the solace of simplicity

Or the gentle hold of a workingman’s arms

But I know these things in you;

I know truth and grace and need

I welcome the uncomfortable

Surge of unspoken requests from my

Passionate cravings; allow me

To drift into your embrace for one

Momentary lapse of sensibility

I shouldn’t speak of my desire

For your nectar, sweet on my lips,

Forbidden thoughts and like

Electric currents, they are

Intended to exploit a charge

Good Girl

Standard

I haven’t posted a song lyric in a while, and maybe it’s a stretch to call this one, but here it is:

Danger’s in your wayward kiss

Filled with hunger, tastes of bliss

Get me to a safer place

The trap, the cage, is your embrace

You’re the myth I believed

I took a bite of love-lost grief

Gotta leave this place behind

Gotta find some peace of mind

Tell me how we were both wrong

Seems to be your favorite song

In a single solitary sigh

What once was truth became a lie

I was no saint but e’er I sinned for a foolish boy with a cocky grin

The ways you taught me ne’er I been, what we were won’t be again

Hope you’ve learned from all we had, never make a good girl go bad

If I could get to where you are

A sad state is where I’d be

I’ll stay happy where I am

Only misery loves company

I’ve prayed the Lord my soul to keep, resting easy in my sleep

You no longer feed my dreams, the price I paid much too steep

Hope you’ve learned from all we had, never make a good girl go bad

At the End Of the Day

You are the one I should run from,

Yet I continue to run to you;

A bad boy of epic proportions, and I smile

When you flirt, rivulets of destiny coursing

Across the landscape, leading to you…

I see you standing there and think you must

Taste like crushed sunshine on the rocks,

Poured into a tall glass for me to drink up

Into the Blue

Pigtails and polyester skirts, dreams as big as the sky

Believed she’d ride in hot air balloons, meet the perfect guy

Rose-colored glasses, worn until her eyes shaded pink

A grown woman now, in a dark corner with a drink, unsatisfied

To ride the tide of someone else’s wave, embittered

Shadows follow her from her heart’s shallow grave;

Singularly unable to understand her metered path, distance

Between the reasons, beyond the reach of her grasp;

An insignificant bubble in a stream of carbonated dreams,

Floating down an open drain to an unforgiving sea

Perdu Liaison

Standard
 medium_35333972

Some things aren’t meant to be

As nature often shows

There are no leaves on the winter tree,

No sun where the fern grows

We can want to suffering for one another’s touch

We can say anything, won’t amount to much

Nothing really lost, except a hungry need

Matters little for those who don’t choose love,

Our hearts rarely bleed

You’ll go your way, and I’ll go mine

Little ripples in the water stilled by time

Lamentation, a new fragrance on the wind

An imperfectly perfect pair who only knew ‘the end’

Cupid, Be Gone

Penning the words of the lovesick, immersing my soul in their misery. Give unto me those days of carefree joy, when I knew two lovers holding hands, teasing one another with a glance, hoping for moments alone and those kisses where eyeglasses bumped against one another and awkward were the groping touches, when he said he loved her. She was the dream he ne’er dared to hope for. But his was a plight of circumstance and fear. Hers became that of a broken heart.

The heat of her heart threatened to burn her bones to ash when a cool breath from the north tempered her fiery destruction. Thirsting for any precious drop of water in her desert, his distant offerings nourished in ways she couldn’t have anticipated. His promises were broad and hopeful and passionate. He said he loved her. He was the dream she ne’er dared to hope for. But hers was a plight of circumstance and fear. His is that of a broken heart.

Lessons dealt and lessons learnt; I finally see the truth of it.
I was beholden to one and one was beholden to me,
Neither can circumvent reality.
And neither shall belong to me.
I write of love that’s lost, love that will never be.
Pain is reflected in every unwitting deception,
The brilliance of a lover’s manipulation,
The heart trusting in temptation.

For me, I shall stay the course, so that not even an arrow of Eros could force me off my path of contrite resignation; he can keep his bow behind his back and move on to a target willing to receive his misleading dart.
