She is selfish. That’s what they all say about her. She chose to walk away from her marriage after 20 years. Selfish bitch. Did she even think about the people who got hurt from it? Did she even think about the years put in already with the man she was married to? Did she remember the promises she made to have and to hold? Even her own mother said she was selfish so she must be. How could she dare to reach out for something more? What if there is no more?
All the way down the lane to the other side of life she hears the chanting, “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side…the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” They almost always have a nervous laugh when they say it, as if they wonder but wouldn’t dare to find out for themselves. She stops when she gets to the other side and looks behind her. The sky is still the same color. The dirt is still brown. And yes, the grass is still green. So what’s so different about it? What’s so special about the other side? It’s hers.
